Accommodation
We check into the chic hotel Simius Playa, which proudly stands a mere 20 metres away from it’s magnificent private beach.
We love the casual elegance of this charming boutique hotel with its 47 comfortable rooms including 7 well-appointed Suites; most have balconies and terraces.
Like many guests we’ve been coming here for years.
Sports and Leisure Facilities
After a couple of days a rhythm sets in of simple pleasures. A healthy breakfast, a morning stroll on the pristine white sands; a swim in the warm Mediterranean sea. Stretching out on comfortable loungers beneath blue and white umbrellas – it’s all about relaxing.
Feeling sporty? You can ace your partner on the nearby tennis courts at €10 per hour or diving devotees can rent equipment from Pro Dive close to the hotel.
Man’s best friend is not only a dog, it’s a bike. They are easy to hire from the hotel, €15 a day, to take you to the Thanka Village where there’s horse riding and a golf course. Rent a boat from the harbour for a coastal cruise or for those who want to keep in touch with their quadriceps and calf muscles there are the ubiquitous beach pedalos.

Feeling hungry? Tall multi-coloured Gladioli gladden the eye whilst lunching in the gardens of the Simius Playa. For €20 you can feast on a bountiful buffet of seafood and salads, or if your not feeling peckish, for less, share a delicious home-made pizza with your partner.
If you don’t need a nap, just Kindle the afternoon away on the pool-side terrace that in the evening becomes the popular cocktail spot.

Top Traditional Sardinian Cuisine
Dining is a celebration at the Simius Playa restaurant, noted to be one of the finest in Villasimius, especially for fish lovers. Sardinian specialities – a favourite is Fregola ai Crostacei, tiny pasta balls with baby crayfish, a welcome change from struggling with strings of spaghetti.
A strawberry risotto – savoury, nutty and sweet. For the carnivorous, tender slivers of grilled beef with rosemary and a salad of Chard sautéed with chilli pepper, partnered by a Rosso Fosco Merlot from the Cantina Valerio – a perfect marriage. Not to be missed is the homemade vanilla ice cream served with orange-scented sapa honey.

After our culinary adventure we hail the Ape Calessino (a baby open taxi). Three minutes and eight euros later we are in the town of Villasimius in the midst of a lively crowd of locals and tourists – it’s a veritable street party.The blare and pop from the glitzy shops compete with the sounds of the street musicians; but nothing drowns the music of the brilliant flautist Michela Calabresi, who thrills us with her cool jazz.
For a night-cap we drop in to the Capanna bar and restaurant next door to the hotel, a sophisticated ‘meetery’ for the smart set. |
